Spring 2008 News

The ISCPM was pleased to welcome Mark Carpenter and Darrell Harmon of PeopleSmart Solutions who presented information on “Crucial Conversations: Tools for Talking When Stakes Are High” in Blackfoot, Boise and Coeur d’Alene in March and April. The discussions focused on addressing tough situations we often face in the workplace, those critical moments that require our best performance when emotions take over, our brains lock up, and we act in ways that drive us away from the results we want most.

The ISCPM board has recently experienced changes in board members. Sharon Pilkinton, who served on the board for the past year and a half as Secretary has resigned her position on the board and has been replaced by Martin Chaney of the Department of Transportation. Stacy Jones who served on the board for the past year and a half has resigned her position as President elect. Her replacement is Deborah Woolery. Deborah has been serving as Treasurer. That position is being filled for the remainder of this year by Kristine Gambee. We’ll miss Sharon and Stacy and welcome Martin and Kristine to the board.

The ISCPM Web site has been revamped and updated at http://iscpm.org. Please take a few minutes to visit the site. You can update your own personal information if changes have occurred and access all the information previously available on our web site. We welcome your comments and suggestions.

2008 Spring Seminar

THE IDAHO SOCIETY OF CERTIFIED PUBLIC MANAGERS®
PROUDLY PRESENTS:

CRUCIAL CONVERSATIONS
By
Mark Carpenter and Darrell Harmon of PeopleSmart Solutions

Crucial Conversations: Tools for Talking When Stakes Are High

When faced with tough situations – those critical moments that require our best performance – we usually do our worst. Emotions take over, our brains lock up, and we act in ways that drive us away from the results we want most.

Where Are You Stuck?

We all have issues where we’re not getting the results we want and need. Anything from poor productivity, declining quality, lack of teamwork, or strained relationships can keep us from being as effective as we would like to be. Wherever you’re stuck, it’s likely there’s a crucial conversation you’re either not holding or not holding well that’s keeping you stuck.

March 31, Blackfoot
April 14, Boise
April 22, Coeur d’Alene

Please see below for more information and a registration form!

If you are a Certified Public Manager graduate or student, you can still join the Idaho Society and receive a discount on this great seminar. Go to the Home Page for an application.

Get Others To Do What Needs To Be Done - Willingly!

On October 25th the Idaho Society welcomed Silver Rose who spoke on how to “Get Others to do What Needs to be Done – Willingly!”  She addressed topics such as how to take the sting out of change, motivating others to think for themselves, how to critique without condemning, and showing appreciation more effectively.  The four workshops were very interactive and provided the attendees with tools that they could begin using right away.  The comments and responses from those who participated were extremely positive.

During the lunch period on October 25th we held our annual meeting that included electing officers for 2008.  Those who attended the annual meeting were thrilled that our bid to host the 2013 national conference had been accepted and are looking forward to welcoming everyone to Idaho.  The society has contracted to have our website revamped and updated in anticipation of the conference and to make it more user friendly to our members.  We hope to roll out the new site in January.

On December 18th Idaho graduated two CPM classes.  The society sponsored the refreshments after graduation ceremonies for graduates, family, and supervisors.  This year we were fortunate to have Ron Buchholz speak with the graduates about the benefits of joining the Idaho Society and the AACPM®.

As the 2008 society president I am looking forward this year!

19th Annual Academy Conference in Madison WI

The 19th Annual Academy of Certified Public Managers Conference was hosted by the Wisconsin Society of Certified Public Managers from September 10th through the 12th, 2007, in Madison, Wisconsin.

The conference was attended by Sharon Pilkinton, Paul Servatius and Reva Tisdale from the Idaho Society.  The Askew winner for Idaho was Pamela Rausch.  The Askew award recognizes exceptional CPM projects that utilize management practices exemplifying the philosophy of the AACPM.   Pam’s project was entitled ONES (On-line Non-monetary Entry System).

Sunday evening we all attended a “Tailgate” party at a local brewery.  Several people took tours of the brewery while the rest of us just sampled the excellent beer.

Monday morning began with opening ceremonies in the Assembly Chambers at the State Capitol.  If you ever get to Madison Wisconsin, the capitol is a must see.

At the opening ceremonies and again at the banquet on Tuesday evening we had a presentation and performance by Native American Art Shegonee.
